Before Partying in Tokyo, Know These Three Areas (I Mixed Them Up My First Time)
In 30 seconds: Tokyo splits into three — Yoshiwara for in-store soaplands, Shin-Okubo for outcall, Kabukicho for nightlife (not a soapland district). For areas by taste (Ni-chome, Roppongi, Ikebukuro, etc.) see “Where to Go in Each Japanese City”.

My own blunder: on my first Tokyo trip I thought Kabukicho was where “those kinds of shops” were concentrated — one walk around showed me it's something else entirely. So this post sorts out the three areas first.
Yoshiwara is in Taito Ward — the route for visiting legally registered soaplands in person. Most of our shop pages and beginner guides cover it. Get off at Minowa or Minami-Senju and make your own way there.
Around Shinjuku/Okubo it's mostly outcall — the companion comes to your hotel or lodging. More flexible, no cross-town trips. See our Tokyo outcall page.
Kabukicho, by Shinjuku East Exit, is a nightlife district packed with izakaya, clubs and entertainment — not a soapland street like Yoshiwara. Great for wandering, eating and drinking, but don't follow anyone off the street for adult services.
My way of choosing is simple: for the traditional soapland experience, read the Yoshiwara guides and shop list; for hotel visits and flexible timing, see the outcall page; to just feel Tokyo at night, wander Kabukicho.
Whichever you choose, the rules are the same: 18+, carry your passport, and book and pay only through the shop's or our listed official channels.
Street touts and DMs asking you to transfer first to “hold a slot” — trust none of them. I say this in every post because people really do fall for it.
